A friend of mine, Shaila Kibria, just won the nomination to run as the NDP candidate for Mississauga-Erindale in the provincial elections (October, 2007). Shaila is a mother of three and a long-time activist for a number of causes. She’s the most outgoing, sociable, people-person I know. Her speech came from her heart – that’s just the type of person she is.

Wow! It is things like this, which make me proud to be a Muslim. I hope I get to see more sisters in positions like these, and striving for such things in my lifetime.
Masha Allah! Good on her for not complaining like so many of us do, but actually going and getting involved. (Don’t get me wrong: we have a democratic right to complain as Canadians, but so often we complain and that’s the end of it, instead of trying to do something)… I checked the site, most of the links are still not “linkable”. I guess it’s pretty new, but I’m going to trust you as a friend of hers that she’s all you say she is
